Hang your photos
The sooner you get your family photos up, it will start to feel more like home. Experiment with black and white photos for a sophisticated feel, enlarge some favorites or print special ones on a canvas. However you plan to do it, make sure it’s one of the very first things you get done. Seeing your photos and remembering special memories will help the space feel inviting and comfortable.
Pick out new lighting
New lighting fixtures are a quick way to update and personalize a room. Put your own stamp on it though – do some research. Check out different stores & websites and see what feels good to you. Pick out something that you’d enjoy for a long time and goes with your decor or theme. Let your kids pick out something special for their rooms. Thinking bold? Sparkly? Farmhouse?
Add candles and familiar scents
Scents are known to have a calming and relaxing effect. Grab some of your favorite scented candles, or fire up your essential oil diffuser. After a crazy move or long renovation, familiar scents will bring you back to a happy and peaceful time – which is just what you want in your new home!
Get the Ring Doorbell
If you don’t already own one, get one! These are fun to have and make you feel safe. Just moved to a new area? This is a great way to keep an eye on what happens on your street. Ordering a lot of new things? You will be able to see as soon as they are delivered, and even talk to the delivery person through it! The camera is clear and can connect to your phone to alert you of movement while you are out. It’s a great thing to have for your home.
Unpack – Quickly
A big part of making your house a home – whether it’s a new home or a renovation, is getting things back to normal as soon as you can. Unpacking quickly will help you achieve this. If there are boxes all over for months and you still can’t find anything, you won’t have that warm cozy feeling when you walk in the door. So, unpack, organize, and start living your best life in your favorite place.
Host a Housewarming Party
Having friends and family over will make your house feel like a home in no time. New memories will be made and you will get to show off your new place! Have a few drinks, chat and hang out. The noise and laughter will make you feel at ease and at home. If you have renovated, having a “reveal” party is a great way to show off all the work you’ve done. Make sure to have some before pictures to really show the changes and impress!
